AMPD Retail Index by Nielsen
AMPD Retail Index by Nielsen is a research project which tracks and reports national sales revenues and performances of the participating retailers on a monthly basis. As for methodology, this study involves no projection but direct collection of the participating retail chains’ data, in which the data of these retailers are gathered together to compose the index.

The retailers who are subscribed to the index are supposed to transmit their data in terms of the revenues of their national stores –excluding revenues materialized by wholesale and semi-wholesale -, number of employees, number of invoices, sales area in terms of m2 to Nielsen.
AMPD Retail Index includes all product groups in which the participating retailers operate. The data of the participating retailers who are experts in various kinds of product groups such as textile, technology, food, shoe and toy composes the base of the retail index and the data is not excluded from seasonality. The base-month being January 2006, the indexes are calculated as such:
Revenue Index: Assuming the revenue realized in January 2006 as 100, the total revenue of the relevant month realized in the participating retailers is presented in a trended format. Both VAT included and VAT excluded revenues are presented in the scope of revenue index.
Deflated revenue Index: The above mentioned revenue index is excluded from CPI announced by Turkish Bureau of Statistics.
Number of Slips Index: Assuming the number of slips in January 2006 as 100, the quantity of slips regarding to the sales made in the relevant month are indexed.
Revenue per slip Index: The VAT included revenue of the relevant month is divided to the quantity of slips to achieve the revenue per slip. Assuming the revenue per slip in January 2006 as 100, the obtained value is indexed.
Number of stores Index: Assuming the number of stores in January 2006 as 100, the number of stores, which composes the base of the sales revenue of the relevant month, is indexed.
Revenue per store Index: The VAT included revenue of the relevant month is divided to the number of stores to obtain revenue per store. Assuming the number of stores in January 2006 as 100, the obtained value is indexed.
Sales area (m2) Index: Assuming the sales area of the retail stores in January 2006 as 100, the sales area, which composes the base of the sales revenue for the relevant month, is indexed.
Revenue per m2 Index: The VAT included revenue of the relevant month is divided to the sales area of the retail stores to obtain revenue per m2. Assuming the revenue per m2 in January 2006 as 100, the obtained value is indexed.
Total number of Employees Index: Assuming the number of total employees in January 2006 as 100, the total number of employees for the relevant month is indexed.
Revenue per employee Index: The VAT included revenue of the relevant month is divided to the total number of employees to obtain revenue per employee. Assuming the revenue per employee in January 2006 as 100, the obtained value is indexed.
Number of In-store Employees Index: Assuming the number of in-store employees in January 2006 as 100, the total number of in-store employees for the relevant month is indexed.
Revenue per in-store employee Index: The VAT included revenue of the relevant month is divided to the number of in-store employees to obtain revenue per in-store employee. Assuming the revenue per employee in January 2006 as 100, the obtained value is indexed.
Each 12th day of the relevant month – or the consequent working day - the indexes are announced at CNN Turk TV channel.
